The ideal plant for your garden arbor is one that will gracefully climb and cover the structure without overwhelming your space or compromising its stability. Clematis is an excellent choice, as it produces vibrant flowers, vines easily, and remains lightweight, preserving your arbor’s structural integrity. The climbing rose “New Dawn” offers gorgeous blooms and fragrance but requires your help to secure its canes since it doesn’t cling naturally and occasional tying or weaving will guide its growth. Jasmine is another wonderful option, offering lovely scent and attractive foliage, though it, too, needs to be trained onto the arbor for support. While Wisteria is stunning and showy, it grows vigorously and becomes very heavy, so only use it if your arbor is extremely sturdy. Always ensure your arbor or trellis is structurally sound before planting vigorous climbers.
