Thank you for your question and what a great idea. We just found out that there is a space that spans 2.75" allowing for a narrow plaque. See this line drawing below.
How much space is below the handle? I need to know the size of a memorial plaque that will go there. TREX® Yacht Club 48 Inch Bench
The back has the oval hole. I am curious the height dimension of the space below the hole.
